► Everest Base Camp Trekking

The Everest Base Camp trek is a classic walk from Lukla(starting point) to Kalapatthar(Destination) close to the base camp of the world's highest mountain. It is a popular route, amongst world's most adventurous trips. The trail to base camp has a network of small and well equipped lodges which have seen big improvements in food and accommodation facilities nowadays. This makes the programme ideally suited to lodge-based trekkers. Also you will find best camping sites and well managed resting places.
A good level of fitness is required to make the most of this excellent trek. The walking is at times tiring, there will be days when you will be very tired, particularly on the climb to Kalapatthar, but the rewards are there. The mountain views on this trek are definitely the best in Nepal . The towering snowy peaks surround you at all times. Everest (8848m), Lhotse (8511m), Makalu (8481m), Nuptse (7879m), Ama Dablam (6856m), Thamserku (6623m), Kwangde (6194m) and many more. Our trekking teams in the Everest (Khumbu) area are the famous Sherpas and their warmth , outgoingness and experience are a great bonus on our Everest treks.

Baggage Allowance :

One piece of soft baggage (duffle bag) not weighing more than 20 kg, plus one carry-on baggage (a 30-40 litre day pack would be ideal).  Lock it up with a strong padlock. Please do not bring a suitcase or a backpack with an external frame.  There is no need to buy an expensive backpack especially for this trip because the porters will put all bags into big baskets.

Equipment & Clothing :

Please refer to the separate Suggested Equipment & Clothing List. The Members will best have a moderate level of fitness to enjoy the experience of it's fullest. You may be traveling in snowy terrain. The trails are sometimes steep and some of the days longer 6-8 hours a day. Weather can deteriorate and rain, wind or even some snow are possible. You must, therefore, bring adequate clothing and footwear for the cold weather.

Altitude Sickness :

Altitude sickness, if not treated when symptoms first appear, can lead to death.  Often known as AMS or Acute Mountain Sickness, it can ruin a trek and should be treated very seriously. The Himalayan Mountains begin where other mountain ranges end.  As altitude increases, especially above 3,000 metres (9,842'), the air becomes thinner, creating certain difficulties for the human body.

Youth, strength and fitness make no difference here.  The only prevention is to give ones body time to adjust to high altitude.  Those who go too high too fast are liable to be victims of Acute Mountain Sickness.  To minimize its threat, we recommend following these advice:

»   Drink adequate fluids.  At 4,300 metres (14,108'), for example, the body requires 3 to 4 litres of liquid a day.  At low altitudes try to drink at least 1 litre a day.

»   Accept the fact that you cannot go very high if your time is short.

»   Learn to recognize the symptoms of AMS: headache, nausea, loss of appetite, sleeplessness, fluid retention and/or swelling of the body.  The cure is to climb no higher until the symptoms have disappeared.

»   Do not expect everyone in your group to acclimatize at the same rate.  If you experience such discomforts, tell the accompanying travel High Solu facilitators immediately.

»   For the sake of safety, if the trek leader deems it necessary to ask a participant who is suffering from AMS to descend, he will have the authority to do so even though it may go against the will of that participant.

The Itinerary :

While we try our best to aim for the  ideal itinerary, there is always the possibility that it might be changed without prior notice because of prevailing weather conditions or the physical and mental condition of group members at the time.

Environmental Stewardship :

To show your respect for the environment and the people of Nepal, we encourage you to live by this Golden Rule: “Take nothing but photos; leave nothing but footsteps.”
