Mani Rimdu Festival (fourteen scene masked dance drama, inspired by the Tibetan Buddhism and Public Blessing by Lama (Rinpoche)is held at Chiwong monastery for 3 days following the day of Octobers full moon. Chiwong Monastery is located atop a cliff, was built by Lama Sangye.During the day before of the full moon, Wang(Impowerment) is given to the publics and pilgrimage. The morning following the full moon until that evening, a monk dance drama (Chham) is acted out in the Monastery yard. On the evening of 3rd day, A ceremony called Jinsa, Where firewood is burned on a sand mandala, concludes the festival. The masked dance drama is an offering to various holy figures. Thorough the dancing the priest protect, purify and pray for good fortune. The Dance Drama consists of these fourteen scenes: the dance of the golden nectar; Messengers of the Guru Rinpoche; Defender of the faith; dance of the drums; Master of the cemetery; Old man (Mi Tshering); Guardians of the Dharma; Dance of the Zur-ra; Dance of the Dakini; the Yogi and the Novice; Dance of the scavengers; Dance of the swords; Dance of the spiritual warfare and concluding dance.Mani Rimdu is a re-creation of legendary events; the establishment of Buddhism in Tibet by the great saint Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava). Through the dances, symbolic demons are conquered, dispelled, or converted to Dharma Protectors, as positive forces clash with those of chaos. The dances convey Buddhist teaching on many levels from the simplest to the most profound.It is an opportunity for Sherpa and Tibetans to gather and celebrate together with the monastic community.The monks who perform the dances, first take vows at an empowerment ceremony with Trulshig Rinpoche. During the dances they become deities, rather than ordinary people. Because the dances are regarded as sacred, they can only be performed in the context of Mani Rimdu, and not for ordinary entertainment. Trulshig Rinpoche explains, "seeing Mani Rimdu is like receiving a blessing". It is a place of irresistible charm which can thoroughly satisfy your thirst for beauty, simplicity and solitude. You will be trekking scenic ridge trails, camping in the alpine forests, visiting the mystical monasteries, meeting the ever-friendly sherpa in their villages, climbing the snowy mountains of Pike peak(4070M) where you will see stunning panoramic views of Nepal Himalayas from Annapurna on the west to Kanchenjunga on the east with Mount Everest at center stage. This area get far less traffic than Khumbu valley. This trek is done with camping.
