Kathmandu/Tsedang/Lhasa/Gyantse/Sighatse/Xegar/Rongbuk/Zhangmu/Kathmandu This is a fantastic and special overland tour to Tibet.You start your journey flying Kathmandu to Lhasa The flight over the Himalaya makes spectacular crossing rarely seen anywhere in the world. The lush green colour in Nepal slowly fades away and arid, dull gray plateau appears which in turns into blue sky as you land at Lhasa. The highest mountain in the world, Mt.Everest, and another 8000-meter peak of Mt. Makalu dominates the breathtaking view. After Gongkar airport drive to Tsedang and visit the tomb of the king; Yumbulakhang & Chamdrok temple. Then drive back to Lhasa for 2 full days sightseeing tour of Sera monastery; Jokhang temple & Barkhor Street on the second day,Visit Potala palace, Drepung Monastery & Norbulingka. After Lhasa stop at Gyantse to visit the golden pagoda or Palkor Chorten. It is the most famous monument in Tibet. It was built in 15th century for worship only. The top of the pagoda is made of copper heavily gilded with gold. Next stop is at Shigatse. Tashilhunpo monastery, in Shigatshe, is the most important monastery outside Lhasa. The first Dalai Lama founded it in 1447, in the honor of his teacher Kadrub. Gendun Zhuba was the first abbot of the monastery. In 1600 at the invitation of the monastery the 4th Panchen Lama became 16th abbot making the monastery official abbot of the Panchen Lama. Drive to xegar and to Rongbuk explore the north face of mt. Everest, visit Rongpbuk monastery and drive back to Kathmandu by Kodari. Anyone with reasonably good physical fitness and in good health can take this trip.
We recommend at least 2 to 3 nights in Kathmandu to allow sufficient time to process visa.
