This is a popular tour in Tibet. The journey will starts from Kathmandu airport for the flight to the Lhasa(3650M) and free afternoon for acclimatization.You will be escorted 2 full days sightseeing tour in Lhasa city of Sera monastery; Jokhang temple & Barkhor Street on the second day,Visit Potala palace, Drepung Monastery & Norbulingka. Drive 260KM southwest to Gyantse to visit the golden pagoda or Palkor Chorten. It is the most famous monument in Tibet. It was built in 15th century for worship only. The top of the pagoda is made of copper heavily gilded with gold. Nest day drive along the shore of Yamdrok-lake; to the Tibetan it is known as "Turquoise Lake". The road gradually climbs up to Kamba-la pass(4786m) and descends to the valley. The journey from the floor of the valley is about 1 hour spectacular drive along the bank of Brahmaputra river. Next stop is at Shigatse. Tashilhunpo monastery, in Shigatshe, is the most important monastery outside Lhasa. The first Dalai Lama founded it in 1447, in the honor of his teacher Kadrub. Gendun Zhuba was the first abbot of the monastery. In 1600 at the invitation of the monastery the 4th Panchen Lama became 16th abbot making the monastery official abbot of the Panchen Lama. Drive back to Lhasa 280KM following the Brahmaputra river(Yarlung Tsangpo).Day excursin to Ganden Monastery (70KM) which was built in 1409AD by Tsong Khapa(founder of Gelukpa Sect). You will be transfered to Gongkar airport for your departure flight back to Kathmandu. Anyone with reasonably good physical fitness and in good health can take this trip.
